Starting Echolink with ElseeMore on Vista PDF Print E-mail

I have just installed Echolink & ElseeMore on Vista. Echolink could not be started from ElseeMore (Gives a long string of Hex characters [GUID]). If you start Echolink first then ElseeMore will connect.

To fix this you have to run Echolink.exe from the command prompt and add /regserver option you need to be Administrator to do this.

To get a command prompt enable the run command by right clicking the Start menu button and selecting properties scroll down to find the RUN and tick the box then save. Another way is the type 'CMD' in the Start Menu Search box and the 'Icon-cmd' will appear.

Now I am new to Vista and I also set the properties for Echolink and ElseeMore to run as XP SP2 and run as administrator. You may be able to skip these options. As I say I am new 'today' to Vista.

I have since found out that Echolink & ElseeMore will run without 'run as XP SP2' and you do not need to be set to run as 'Administrator' Both applications must be set to run with same options (UAC [user access control] level).

If let's say Echolink is set to run as Administrator then when you run ElseeMore with 'no administrator' then you will get the same error as I mentioned at the top of this article. The reason it it does not have access to the higher level that Echolink is set too.

If you set both applications to Administrator then you will have to 'give permission' every time you try to run the applications. So just run 'both' as normal do not set 'run as administrator.

BUGS:

Versions 0.4.0.11 or below have a few bugs that will only show up only with Vista. Such as a 'divide by zero error' when closing. This and other bugs are fixed in version x.x.x.12 and above. I will be issuing a new version in near future (this message issued 4th Jan 2008). If you are desperate then contact me and I will email you the 'exe'.

I have a new version EchoShack which will be available from http://echoshack.com this will work ok with Vista and fixes the shutdown bug where Echolink GUI closes but the application remains running in background.
